The Project

  • The Entropic Cosmos is a longterm space fantasy project, a vibrant and fully world-built universe we’ve been carefully crafting for years. The main saga, Prophets of Entropy, is an ensemble space fantasy opera. Yes, that’s just a self-important way to say the books are very long and with a ton of main characters and contexts.

I don’t know when you’re reading this or how far along we are on our publishing schedule, but just know that whatever’s available to you now, we’re at least one year ahead. This is not a series destined to die if nobody finds it. We fully intend to keep publishing for the next decade. And by that I don’t mean that’s something we just dream about, I mean we actually have a plan, we have outlines, titles, synopses and a few details for stories that will be published in 2036.

It seems absurd, we know. But if you met us you’d know we mean it.

  • When I shared the first Entropic Cosmos short story with one of my closest friends, it wasn’t even finished yet. It was just an embryo, totally different from what it later became. Yet, something I didn’t expect happened: my friend liked it so much that all our conversations during long walks in the Italian summer heat started revolving around different ways to expand the story, the characters and the universe, to make them more fully developed and unique. We did this for years.

We soon realized we had more than a short story on our hands, that just scribbling down some notes here and there wouldn’t cut it. We needed something more, something longer and more structured. With the little time we had we started working on the main storyline, a series of books called The Prophets of Entropy.

We outlined Book 1, Sailing Solar Winds, in the summer of 2019 and I finally wrote it in Italian a year later, in 2020.

After that, life got in the way. We still talked about it and gathered new and better ideas, but we never did anything with it. We both knew that Italy is an incredibly small market for genre fiction, and to be frank we were just having a ton of fun. We didn’t want to ruin that with big plans or with the daunting prospect of having to translate all of it into english to reach a wider audience.

Still, there was something more. A gnawing desire to see this labor of love and nerdiness – mostly the latter, perhaps – finally exist outside of our minds and my chaotic notebooks. Every time we’d talk about it (very often) we’d get excited by some detail.

One of us would shake his head and say “this has to exist”.
“It has to exist!” the other would echo.

And now it does. It is available, or it will be, book by book. If you’re reading this, from the bottom of out hearts, thank you. If you’re here, now, it finally exists.

  • We’re two guys. To be more precise, two Italian guys. Your average SciFi/Fantasy aficionados. We don’t do this as a job, this is a passion project.

One of us is actually “the writer” (That’s me, clearly. Hi!), the one tasked with thinking about the style, the story structure and putting pen to paper. This universe comes from an idea I had for a short story in 2017, and it all snowballed from there. I have loved SciFi ever since I could love anything and I have a degree in cultural anthropology, so this project is also my excuse to create interesting and coherent “alien” cultures.

The other one lends this project his creative mind, his out-of-the-box ideas and his fine strategic thinking. He keeps me sane and in check. To be honest, a few of my favorite things about this universe were his ideas and you won’t read a lot of trite and boring stuff – or just plain bad – only because of his wise counsel.

Make no mistake: you’ll realize there’s only one pair of hands writing the stories, but two minds are thinking them up.

  • I spend too much time obsessing every detail and I actually have to write every word.

  • He makes everything better, but he’s allergic to hard work. He’s probably illiterate and he won’t change this description even though I’ll tell him to.
